THE CHURCH NEEDS PROPHETS

The Urgent Need for the Prophet Today

There’s a stirring happening in the body of Christ. You can feel it in the prayers of the faithful, in the desperation of the broken, and in the longing cries of those who have lost their way. The Church is groaning for help. And right now, more than ever, we need the prophetic voice alive and active in the Church.

A Church in Need of Help

In 1 Corinthians 12:1-7, Paul paints a picture of a Church that desperately needs the gifts of the Spirit—not for entertainment, not for status, but to help each other. And among those gifts is prophecy, a divine whisper from God that strengthens, encourages, and comforts His people.

People today are overwhelmed. Many have given up. They are broken, confused, and tossed around by a culture that champions idolatry and self-worship. They don’t just need another motivational quote or Sunday morning routine.
They need a living Word from the heart of God.

Prophecy: More Than Confrontation

When you hear "prophet," you might imagine confrontation or fire-and-brimstone warnings. But prophecy is so much deeper and richer than that.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:1-4:

"Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy."

Prophecy was never meant to be a hammer of judgment. It was meant to be a gift—a balm that strengthens weary hearts, encourages the downcast, and comforts the brokenhearted.

The prophet’s role today is not just to rebuke sin but to call out destiny, speak life, and breathe hope into dry bones.

Strengthen. Encourage. Comfort.

Strengthen

A prophetic word gives courage to the fainthearted. It reminds people who they are and what they were born for. In a world that constantly shouts, "You can't," a word from heaven boldly proclaims, "With God, you can."

People need a word that revives their calling, that rekindles the dream God placed inside them. A true prophetic word will put spiritual steel in the soul.

Encourage

Even in correction, the New Testament model of prophecy begins and ends with encouragement.

Imagine hearing a word like this:
"I see the hand of God on your life. Though you have fallen into despair, God says, ‘Forgiveness is here. Repentance is here. I am making you new again.’ He is igniting a fresh passion in you to preach, to serve, and to dream again."

That’s what biblical prophecy does. It doesn’t beat people down. It lifts them up.

Comfort

We are living in the days Paul warned Timothy about—days of difficulty, deception, and deep suffering (2 Timothy 3:1-13).
In times like these, the Church doesn't just need to be told what’s wrong.
We need comfort.
We need to know we are not alone. We need to hear heaven’s voice saying, "Keep going. Don't give up. I am with you."

The prophetic voice reminds us that even when evil seems to prosper, God’s promises are still true, and His Church is still victorious.

Activate the Prophetic Gift in You

Right now, wherever you are, you can be a part of God's answer to a hurting world.

Take the next 10 minutes.
Ask the Holy Spirit, "Who can I bless today?" Wait for a name or a face to come to mind.
Then, spend another 10 minutes asking, "God, what do you want to say to them that will strengthen, encourage, or comfort them?"

No confrontation. No criticism. Only blessing. Only life. Only the voice of the Father through you.

You might be surprised at what God reveals—and how powerful your simple obedience can be.

The Church needs the prophetic voice now more than ever.
You need it. I need it.
The world may be shaking, but God is speaking.
And He’s calling you to be His mouthpiece of hope.

Will you answer the call?
